some more dating sims

so, it's pretty exciting to have found that since i started working on my thesis last year, all sorts of new kinds of dating sims have come out - old stuff in a new, strange way.

i think a lot of people heard about "Hatoful Boyfriend" - it's definitely making its rounds on the internet. it's a typical sort of dating sim targeted at girls, but instead of bishounen the high school is full of pigeons. literally, photographically represented pigeons with anime personalities and little anime bishie boy extra background imagery, but basically they are actually pigeons. and the player is a random human attending this pigeon school for some reason, and lives in a cave?

i played a little bit of the game and it has a really quirky sense of humor to it uncommon to these kinds of games. it doesn't take itself too seriously, even though there are these very basic kind of romantic relationship elements with various persona stereotypes (perverted male nurse, shy domestic nerd, haughty council boy, etc)



as you can see, though, the graphics of this game are extremely limited, especially in terms of animation or emotional representation except through sound effects...

there's another game that game out recently that's also available as freeware (did i mention that hatoful boyfriend is free? because it is, and available to english-speaking players through the dedicated efforts of fans alone!) called "Katawa Shoujo" (literally 'disabled girl(s)'). in this game, you play as a male character with arrhythmia. all of the girls at this school have different sorts of disabilities or disfigurements, including a girl with prosthetic legs, one with stumps for arms, a burn victim, and a deaf mute. the characters in this game are really phenomenal and lack the one-dimensionality that keeps most dating sims from being anything more than a notch below webcomics on the boredom relief scale. there's even an anti-feminist male with aspergers and a bipolar teacher! I'M IN HEAVEN!!!

these are some of the animation sequences from the game. clearly the developers for this game put a great deal more effort into the animated sequences than the average dating sim. so not only are the characters really relateable, human, and interesting, but the animation is good? crazyyyyyyy

people who have played this game rate it especially highly - a friend of mine started playing it recently, the kind of person who doesn't play these sorts of games, at all, ever. he really likes it and wishes "there were more games like that." me too man.

finalized & polished character designs

this was the first shot i took at how i might structure the animatic / storyboard playover, with narration and animatic cues.

Black screen.

I have this idea for a game. I’d call it “Spunk.”

Really sappy music (*theme*) playing over black screen, opening to text: “I woke up at 6:22 AM. It was before my alarm went off. I couldn’t stay asleep, because today was the day I was going away.”

Well, it’s the story of … Zetsubou. It’s not about him as much as the people he meets, though. Zetsubou is… just a regular guy. There’s nothing to his character. That’s why it isn’t about him.

“My mom and dad are really supportive of my problem, but they worry too much. They think I have no friends. Maybe I don’t, but I don’t need friends. I’m really not like other kids.” Zetsubou is finally shown riding in the back seat of a Mazda minivan, between the shoulders of his parents. He looks out window at ‘I don’t need friends.’ He looks at his phone and cut to phone contact list, only his mom and dad and grandma are listed in his contacts.

The player is Zetsubou. And the game isn’t about the player.

Zetsubou walking with dad and mom onto school grounds, small processional clip as they are passed by various students, Zetsubou outright ignores them, carrying his things along. Credits are rolling now (under the guise of gameplay footage) as some arbitrary shots of Zetsubou & family walking along school grounds and passing glimpses of each integral character in passing. He reaches his room.

The only thing about Zetsubou is he has Asperger’s. He can’t read facial expressions at all, or body language. Um. He takes everything at face value. That’s why he’s at reform school. Not because he has Asperger’s, but because he doesn’t interact with people. His parents are worried about him. The reform school forces him to meet new people because… that’s the point of the game. You don’t get any say, so it’s not like it matters anyway.

Typically, what is a ‘enter name, pick gender, etc’ kind of screen just has some information about Zetsubou and some arrow buttons like you should be able to change it, cursor moves around screen and clicks the arrows, but they don’t do anything. Cursor hits next button finally, from “forces him to…” to “matters anyway”.

Sprawling, decrepit campus. Overwhelmingly squat horizontal building shapes. Quick cuts to random scenes in the school, Zetsubou being shunted in the halls by weird-looking people, Zetsubou drinking from a water fountain cautiously, Zetsubou standing in a prayer circle in an awkward classroom. Then cut to Zetsubou’s boring dorm room, looking out window at courtyard from dreary window where twins menace somebody with a skateboard.


So… at reform school… it’s very religious. Officially, the school is something like the Arkansas State Reformatory, and they’re southern Baptist. You go to classes sometimes? Wait. When you first get there, you’re like… in your room. It’s almost like, a vision of your community college experience, if you lived in a bomb shelter the rest of the time that happened to be located within campus for some reason.

And… you meet… well, first you meet the principle of the school, who’s a total bondage queen in disguise. Ms. Wolkov. Who… she wears a normal woman’s business suit… and a full dominatrix suit underneath. But you don’t get to see that until you progress to a point in your relationship with her… if you choose that.

Wolkov character practically oozing out of clothes at Zetsubou over her drab desk, slapping a cat o’nine tails. Because she only deals with you if you skip a lot of classes or slack off. ‘Day by day’ menu options, on what to have character do in the day + stats, cursor selecting ‘play hooky’; show Zetsubou standing boredly in cafeteria, he looks left & right and sees identical cafeteria lanes with slightly differing lengths of lines coming out of people. One is Little Italy and the other is Comfort Zone.

You have to literally wait in each line, so it’s a real gamble. Realtime gamble. But it’s cool, that’s how you meet other people. Zetsubou has slop plopped onto a tray at last sentence and grimaces up at lunchlady, who makes a flirtatious scowl at him and he sighs and walks away.

The front table is empty. Zetsubou chooses back table, and sits down across from Matilda, hidden by a stack of manga novels.


You can pick where you sit to eat your slop. So that determines who you meet. Say you sit in the back at the unwashed table, where Matilda sits. Anime girl. Like, literally, otaku actually. Right? You can spend a lot of time watching anime with her if you want to get with her. Cause that’s all she likes to do. You get close to her by making conversation about real animes. So if you’re a big anime fan, you could say it’s pretty easy to ‘woo’ her.

Game show style trivia boxes asking questions like “Which Love Hina pairing is the most canon? A.keitaru & naru b. keitaru & kitsune c. shinobu & motoko d. naru & mutsumi”. This requires a great deal of devoted attention to your conversations with her. It can be difficult. Various screens of text with Matilda, making short comments on animes or saying “…”, looking flustered and confused.

She is also depressive. So if things get serious… she might take them too seriously.

Matilda looking progressively more distant and upset as player relays to Matilda “… I like the arena style arcs” and “I don’t get why they’re always blushing”, eventually concluding with her hanging in closet above her shrine to player as a bishie.

Or you can try to sit at the center table…

Zetsubou slams down tray at table, disturbing haughty looking Doria. Text option to choose whether to talk to Doria or eat food- “As I tried to _eat the food_, a huge douche plopped down across from me.” as aforementioned happens. Brian “Yo Doria, I saw you skip Prayer and Share. Where’d you go?” text choice: “Stick up for Doria” or “Look expectantly at Doria” or “continue eating silently”, Zetsubou sticks up for Doria – “None of your business, douche” to which Doria smiles weakly.


Here you can meet Doria and Brian.... Brian is, uh, this bro kind of guy. He’s always getting hassled to wear a shirt. Doria wears a uniform. It’s not from this school. Zetsubou can also date her… she turns out to be bossy and really needy. Um. She has bipolar disorder, but she doesn’t want to take medication. She just wants to date you. And be with you. All the time.

“I heard she’s the student council leader. She’s pretty unmistakeable. I don’t think anyone else wears a uniform here.” Progressive cuts of Doria becoming more and more manic looking, until she is on the screen in a bunch of repeated shots, across or next to character and filling the screen. Sync ‘all the time’ clips of Doria freaking out hysterically sobbing and wailing or banging her head on walls, scratching herself etc.

But Brian can be your friend too.

Back to the scene with Doria and Brian; stop on Brian.

Brian’s hobby is jacking off all day to weird porn.

Brian is cut to his dorm, beating off to television porn.

You can become his jackoff buddy in eternal unrequited bromance.

Player reaching for Brian during j/o session, initiates masturbation game where player is instructed to tap A repeatedly to get Brian off before he stops you, after coming he says “dude! No homo!”. It’s NOT gay though. Neither are the matching crystals. Zetsubou looks up from Brian’s lap, crystal necklace swinging into view.

There’s a mature character who’s been mysteriously retained at the… school, also.

In spite of good behavior, Tammy has managed to avoid leaving the school for over a decade because she likes the school life. She finds it, uh, stressful, however, so she needs to find somebody she can ‘trust’ to vent her frustrations to.

Tammy being avoided by other students in hall, Zetsubou monolog “A girl who looks like a French maid is also attending this school. She seems very elegant.” Tammy speaking with a lisp on some note. Concluding on ‘need with Tammy hitching her skirt just enough to reveal a huge diaper. Tammy in full baby garb on the floor, shaking a rattle and begging player to change her diaper while dolls surround them both.

There wouldn’t be anything beyond the school grounds. If you try to leave through the gate, you are conveniently attacked by another student to prevent the game developers from having to make up a town.

Player choosing to have Zetsubou travel to the outer campus and try to sneak out the gate, confronted by Naoko sliding into the screen (not literally – walking in like a sleaze) and demanding “All your shit, now”. Choices: “Hand over your stuff” or “Resist”, you “started to __resist__, but then you heard a loud yell- it was campus security.” Two guards come into frame and give choice for player to either snitch or don’t. Now, if you tell on him to security, you can get with the principal this way. Quick cut to principal, breasts heaving in her too tight suit, asking “So… I heard you squealed?”

If you don’t, you can pursue a relationship with Naoko.

So you kind of get this illusion of controlling your destiny, which is pretty exciting.

In homage to my Japanese inspirations, of course there is a pair of twins at the school, Cheryl and Sheryl. They’re kind of trailer trash chicks.

Cheryl and Sheryl in the courtyard, one puts a cigarette out on a kid in passing; Zets: “I saw the twins in the courtyard. Whenever they’re there, I can’t go to class because I’m too scared to pass them. That’s my excuse, anyway.”

Sheryl is the dark kind of twisted one, and Cheryl is the sweet and innocent one. Cheryl is also the furry.

Cut between Zetsubou talking to each twin, one looking stony vs. one with a naïve smile; Cheryl turns around in her dog fur suit; “What do you think? – Good God… - Murr! -… ” The player must keep careful note of which twin is which; they care very deeply for one another and apparently can tell the difference between Sheryl and Cheryl. Sheryl: Yo Zetsubou. Zets: “Hello… -Cheryl –Sheryl” picks Cheryl, Sheryl: “…” “??” Cheryl smiling sweetly and laughing blushingly at Zetsubou in bed. Sheryl looming over player with knife in hand reflected in Cheryl’s sunglasses.

The real question, of course, is can you have both?

Twins on either side of Zetsubou in bed, close in on Zetsubou’s expression of lecherous intent and sweatiness.


There’s also a very visual kei kind of girl, Lucretia. She spent her parents’ money until they sent her here to teach her a lesson, and she never learned it. She’s being hunted by creditors now as her debt spirals out of control. But if she sees a corset or some other goth accessory, she has to have it.

Lucretia looming, intro, her various outfits. Lucretia in her room, Zetsubou offering her a red rose, which she looks disgusted by, and then black rose as an item, and she gets excited. Zetsubou donning different clothings.

This character won’t be interested in you unless you offer her plenty of material items and appearances to appeal to her aesthetic.

Really gothy Zetsubou flutters anime-ishly in non-wind, kissing Lucretia’s ring-studded hand and looking up at her with hella goth makeup ICP style.


Last but definitely not least is the most normal person in the whole school, Stef. Stef is just not too bright; she came to the school mistaking the workshops for trade school classes and is now stuck with her enrollment fee. She wants to be a vet. One day while practicing on a local stray dog, she gets bitten and starts to suffer something worse than rabies… a generic zombie virus.

Stef across the room in a classroom, Zets. monolog: “Stef is actually paying attention in class. I should borrow her notes.” A bunch of bland expressions and faces, normal dialogues, as Stef gets progressively sicker and more rotten looking. In one clip, her nose crumbles off while you’re making out with her. Zetsubou realizes she’s trying to eat his head.

You can put her down for the greater good or observe a zombie apocalypse unfold, starting with yourself.

Scene with zombie Stef lunging in closet, bound by ropes to closet walls. Zetsubou shakingly trying to level gun at her temple, then cut to class halls, chaplain and some students running screaming, zombie gym teacher grabs a girl and tears her head off bites into it bloodily. Stef running at head of lots of zombies, ending on you in the midst of crowd, chewing a hairy arm.

You can, you know, befriend all these people… Or pursue graphic sexual relationships with them. If you want to. That’s the extent of your control in this world.

Zetsubou watching anime in a beanbag next to Matilda, taking a joint from Naoko, then a rapid cut of sex scenes with Doria, Lucretia, Wolkov, and Stef.


You can access it at a semblance of your own pace. But really your agency is pretty limited. The point is the game is to punish the player with the weight of the protagonist’s lack of autonomy.

Zetsubou making mild observation about his dorm room, nothing of consequence, a lot of “…”ing, clips of him handling situations poorly and apathetically.

A strange world is presented intimately in a manner meant to enthrall.

Most importantly, every single ending is a Bad End. You can’t win. You’re supposed to think you can, though.

Zetsubou shakingly holding the gun after having shot Stef, and leveling it at his own head, wincing. “Don’t worry, Stef… you won’t be alone for much longer… !”

Even if you wriggle out of relationships with some of the less savory characters, in the end, old Fletcher is waiting for you. He won’t let you waste away by yourself.

Fletcher locking a classroom door Zetsubou is in, and turning to him with a gleam in his glasses. “Well, well, well… didn’t you know, school is over?”

Maybe a game developer could make cool minigames to trick some people into thinking this game is fun or cognitively challenging.

Dressup scene with Zetsubou in wardrobe, slipping in and out of similar boring outfits with a bored expression w/ basic Barbie style game mechanics moving him in and out of wardrobe. Zetsubou rushing to change Tammy’s diaper based on the button commands appearing on the screen in the proper order Cooking Mama style, as a time limit surges on w/ Tammy waving her hammy legs and arms.

It could be for the Xbox 360, and you get achievements every time you do something successfully so there’s even more worthless incentive to continue torturing yourself.

Take a handful of shrooms from Naoko and down them, Zetsubou starts tripping balls and giggling with Naoko and an achievement and trophy pop up – “Babby’s first psychedelic!”

Basically, I think a game like this has a lot of potential for success. A few extremely rare artbooks and figurines could be squeezed out for people to masturbate to. Maybe a made for tv live action movie. Yeah. And that… is my idea.

initial plot notes

this is a huge collection of stream-of-thought information i copied down to capture the essence of the ideas i had running through my head. this explains a lot of my work. haha

SPUNK

CENTRAL PLOT: protagonist has been sent to the reform school for apathetic behavior / lack of connection with teachers or other students and lack of participation in school, truancy. this foreshadows the rest of the game’s lack of focus on any sort of school work, despite being set within a ‘school.’

CHARACTERS:

"zombie girl": shy girl with Hermione-ish hair, glasses, moe personality, studies hard and works hard, she’s a nice girl you can meet in a local diner. seemingly the only ‘true’ anime stereotype within the game, actually sweet and easily taken advantage of and rewarding to pursue a relationship with at first. she’s at the school because her parents are shitty and thought that the reform school is a private school for girls / girls’ finishing school.

one day in a test lab attempting to take blood samples from an ill dog, the dog bites her and she starts to become sick with a zombie virus of some sort though this is not blatantly stated. her skin starts getting pale and bruised, eyes sunken, body starts decaying and she eventually rots while you’re having sex with her (nice options) or goes berserk if pushed over the edge (cruel options) and becomes a complete zombie. player must choose whether to attempt to put her down (you fail, and she escapes into the school and the ending features a zombie pandemic Bad End) or live with her chained in your closet until one day your lack of caution gets you killed and she eats you.


"diaper girl": dowdy girl with bright cotton candy pink hair, chubby (not fat) body type, is 35~ but wears a lot of childish or immature items – little blue bows and ribbons in her hair, frilly dresses and lots of pink and purple and lace. she always talks in an obnoxious baby voice when she gets excited / happy and spends all her time watching Disney movies and playing with children’s toys and stuffed animals. at the reform school for her infantilist behavior.

if you pursue a relationship with her, she is quick to call you “her man” and is very needy, always asking favors or whining. a defining point in the relationship is her farting the first time you are about to initiate a sex scene, making out, and your character observes that “it sounded wet” and player has a choice to either throw a fit about it and drive the diaper girl crazy with his nervous obsessions, driving diaper girl to mature whereupon she becomes a normal middle aged woman, or the player can let it go. if the player lets it go, as he moves on to sex, he finds out that she really did shit her pants – her diaper, that is; she likes to pretend to be a little girl and wants you to change your diaper.

you have only a couple of opportunities in this scene to determine whether you will be a part of her weird diaper fetishist life and one day come to wear diapers yourself, or turn the diaper girl into a neurotic mess.


"drug lover": if you try to leave the school grounds, there is a certain point where your character will remark to himself upon entering that “maybe I shouldn’t go past here… it looks pretty sketchy” and will be standing in front of the school gates. he encounters the drug lover, latino guy with black dreads, a wifebeater (green?), low baggy pants, and a luscious ass. this guy asks to bum a cigarette, where upon player has a choice to say no in a couple of ways, and he tries to mug you. security guards stop him, and you have a choice to press charges or let him go and get in trouble instead, wherein you get beaten by the security guards a bit and have to go to Isolation / detention for awhile. if the player turns drug lover in, drug lover breaks into your room at some point and spray paints snitch on your wall. this affects another storyline.

if the player takes the hit for drug lover, player will get a visit from drug lover a few nights later, where upon you have a brief, threatening conversation – either reject all future relationship advancements with drug lover or hit on him to establish the beginning of a relationship. if you choose positive options, drug lover will come to visit you in class and get you to skip class and hang out with him. if you venture out of the school, you have to grip his pocket like a prison bitch. he takes you to a couple of drug dens where you get to enjoy some funny bong scenes the first time and then some K-laced bong scenes the next time. The next time, you fall asleep and wake up ‘sore and aching all over, covered in sweat’ and drug lover also looks pretty tore up and takes you home, where all the other ‘youths’ seem disdainful or concerned about your deranged and beaten appearance.

a couple more hang out scenes with drug lover, then one night he comes to your room and asks for your help. you have the option to go with him or refuse to help and get all pissy with him for what happened to you last time. if you don’t help him, he disappears and you find out in the newspaper a couple days later that he was found dead in a gangland rape, terminate all events / interactions with drug lover. if you go with him, he takes you to a club where he’s let into the VIP section with you and a dealer is waiting for drug lover. you find out drug lover is so deeply in debt to the boss that the boss wants to kill drug lover. he’ll let him live if you both become his hos.

one ending features your new life waiting for drug lover to call you out to go get fucked in exchange for drugs so you can return to happy land while doping out all day in the reform school. the other ending features you trying to save your own skin or drug lover’s and wrestle away the boss’s gun, only to get shot in the leg and watch him shoot drug lover to death and then you.


"bro guy": bishie type boy with thick chin, J/O crystal around neck, blonde and blue eyed of course, looks muscular but is just big and kind of flabby, sent to reform school for fighting and being a douche. bro guy likes to do nothing but jerk off all day to weird porn and you can become friends with him through an opportunity to belittle diaper girl.

bro guy immediately takes you under his wing and hangs out with you all the time – really delectably stupid dialogue about not understanding girls, and social evolution and survival of the fittest. quickly you’re invited to jack off with him all the time, and the first turning point in your relationship is when you’re both jacking off and player makes an observation inwardly about bro guy’s tantalizing dick. you can choose to attempt to jack him off, and he gets really upset and tells you to stop. retrieves another crystal necklace and tearfully tells you his last best buddy left the school and him behind over a year ago, and now you have filled the void.

if you accept the necklace, you become his Jackoff Buddy and have increasingly homoerotic jerkoff sessions and fantastical bromance elements while bro guy repeatedly asserts that he’s “not gay.” this is featured in a bunch of minigames. your character continuously falls deeply in love with bro guy while also asserting that he’s “not gay.” Bad End with bro guy culminates in you supposedly hiring a transsexual hooker, bro guy’s biggest fantasy, to have sex with the two of you, but trick bro guy into sucking your own dick while tearfully blissing out over how gay you are and how he can never know.


"bondage teacher": heaving bosomed, red-haired temptress with Angelina Jolie look to her and skimpy female skirt suit, long red fingernails. teaches the only class protagonist pays any attention in because of her bouncing tits as she writes down crap on the blackboard. after triggering the event with drug lover and choosing to turn him in, her sequence is triggered in which the day after drug lover writes snitch all over your room, she sternly keeps you after class, and wants to know what you were doing wandering around outside the school. she accuses you of looking for trouble at one point with a very particular animated gesture, and this is the initiation to a relationship with her.

if player chooses appropriate options, teacher starts some raunchy flirtatious talk about trouble and asking what kind of trouble, and if the player chooses the right options (easy), she will not actually leave when going to the door, but will lock it and come back and push you down, tie you down to a desk with cords hidden in the empty desk at the front, and spank you with a cat o nine tails while revealing her crazy bondage outfit underneath her skimpy skirtsuit.

she immediately becomes fond of player for being ‘submissive’ in her perspective, and ensue are some scenes building your relationship with her over awkwardly desperate BDSM as she becomes increasingly demanding of your time and monopolizing. turning point in relationship comes when teacher tells you that she wants more time with you, all your time, and has hatched a plan to sneak you out of the school to be her hometime lover forever.

if you insist on leaving teacher after your scandalous relationship is somewhat revealed, she shoots herself, informing you furiously that she hopes you like death row. if player chooses to escape with teacher, the night the plan is suggested to you, she comes to you and chloroforms you in bed. player wakes up in a duffle bag in the back of a van, and teacher hauls player inside and into her dungeon, where she finally releases you from the dufflebag. you are surrounded by a couple of emaciated, haunted-looking adolescent manboys, and the teacher welcomes you to her “family”, turning on the lights to reveal every bondage contraption imaginable and no windows. you realize this is your life from now on.


"bipolar girl": Rei-looking derpy bipolar anime bitch with lumpy, skinny physique, pockmarked skin and constant smirk or disdain gestures. the only girl at the school who wears the uniform - it's not from the school. around 20. you see bipolar girl in the hall fighting with her locker, literally yelling at it because it won’t open and banging on it. player has option to either attempt to help bipolar girl or insult her. insulting her simply opens a topical branch of contemptuous dialogue, attempting to help initiates the relationship with bipolar girl. bipolar girl is often getting into fights with people because of her bad attitude and sudden mood swings and yelling, pursuing a relationship with her features various scenes where bipolar girl will literally get into fights with people or the player, and other times be obliviously sweet and concerned and vulnerable.

turning point in relationship with bipolar girl is when you try to have sex with her, she suddenly starts crying – player can ask what’s wrong. if player asks what’s wrong, bipolar girl turns to player and confesses that she is deeply in love with player, like she’s never been in love with a man ever before like player, and wants to be with player for ever and ever, and she doesn’t know if she can go through with this unless player will always be with her. seemingly romantic. if player acquiesces, turning point has been made; from this point on, bipolar girl is always on the screen with you, even when you go into a bathroom.

eventually, bipolar girl becomes obsessed with the notion that you are cheating on her and can’t be trusted, and bad ending from this is that you come home to your dorm one night and bipolar girl is on your bed. when you enter the room, she looks up, and spreads her legs and shows you her sliced thighs endlessly inscribed with player’s name while screaming “LOOK WHAT I DO FOR YOU” wild-eyed and bloody. she then begs you to fuck her while crying and you wordlessly accept, too enthralled with terror to say no. OTHER ENDING comes from rejecting bipolar girl’s plea that you be with her forever. your tone is dismissive and bipolar girl has seemingly broken up with you on reasonable terms after begging to be with you.

kicker ending is that if you reject bipolar girl, you are doomed – you can only get with bro guy after this because bipolar girl ruins your name and tells everybody else at the school that you’re a rapist etc.


"depressed girl": boring, plain, frizzy brown hair, dumpy, Betty-ish, wears cat jumpers and spandex pants, 30. you have the option to sit with depressed girl whenever you go to the cafeteria for lunch. depressed girl is indeed very boring – the difficult in building a relationship with her is initiating conversation, as depressed girl doesn’t care about much. you have to be willing to cater the conversation to the stupid anime books she has out on the table with her whenever she’s eating.

you can eventually invite depressed girl out on a date, and if asked properly, she will accept, which is the initiation point in the relationship. depressed girl’s date is on a Skype-ish program in the library, where you chat with each other through text even though you can literally see her head over the screen top. depending on how the date goes, depressed girl either wants nothing more to do with you or else seals the relationship deal with a kiss in the library, which you are reprimanded for.

depressed girl will have a lot of lame hangout sessions with player where she watches anime while talking to player and ignoring anything he has to say, or having lifeless sex where she lies there awkwardly. one anime-watching day, depressed girl tries to explain to player how she is feeling – depressed of course, varying symptoms of suicidal thoughts, restlessness, lethargy, etc, and based on player’s dismissal or understanding, depressed girl either kills herself or starts taking medication, encouraged by player to seek medical help for her depression, and ultimately you live together with a Xanaxed out zombie watching anime all day, feeling nothing and having lifeless sex.

Bad End is depressed girl’s suicide, where she explains that she always knew she was a burden and now at least she can be at peace knowing she’s not burdening her important beloved anymore. you have been implicated by her in this unintentionally, however, and are monitored constantly for being a total sociopath.


"sugar mama": rich girl, purple hair? pink hair? dresses ghetto fabulously, chick with hilarious animal print bullshit styles? put into reform school by her CEO parents for wasting so much money partying and shopping, hoping it would teach her a lesson – she should be hard to get, maybe. younger character like 20-ish also. different outfits all the time? she likes it when the character responds apathetically or meanly to her responses, acting pissed off at first but she actually likes ‘dominance’.

pursuing a relationship with sugar mama entails some nail-painting parties with her gal pals and shit at first in which you gain her favor by refusing to let her paint your nails and acting like a hardcore bastard. this is the turning point in the relationship – once her friends leave she demands to be fucked and tears off protagonist’s clothes – the protagonist has to act like a callous asshole to be successful in the endeavor otherwise she tells you to leave and the relationship is over if the character ever expresses the slightest vulnerability (3 strikes). This ultimately leads to the protagonist’s utter emotional castration as he becomes a meathead sex fiend like sugar mama wants. Otherwise the protagonist is made out to be a sensitive pussy with too many ~feelings~.

the awkward love triangle with bro guy features sugar mama, as bro guy will compete with protagonist to get together with sugar mama. character has to outdouche bro guy to win over sugar mama until he’s literally a muscular robot – Bad End if bro guy wins, protagonist watches as sugar mama is fucked ceaselessly by bro guy, pining after his heartless love. ‘Good End’ if you beat bro guy and you and sugar mama team up to be a crazy swinger couple fucking everything that moves as bro guy becomes your human bicycle sexually.


"financially fucked girl": FFG is a goth chick with pink dreads & tripp pants, furry purple top w/ fishnets. she is really bored and restless all the time, wasted a lot of money on goth clothes, and ran away from her creditors by coming to reform school. you only find out about her credit / money problems when you start dating her. talking with her is difficult because she has a slew of text about stupid boring crap (especially ex boyfriends) and you still have to participate in the conversation and keep her entertained. three strikes (boringness) and she moves on immediately.

when pursuing a relationship with her, the protagonist becomes increasingly obsessed and in love with the FFG but it’s impossible to keep her interested unless the character goes to certain lengths – two options, go out of your way to buy new silly goth clothes and roleplay the pants off her until she falls madly in love with you and you run away with her to escape her creditors, to live in a ramshackle apartment together in hedonistic slobdom forever. the other option is to obsessively follow her around and whine and belittle her and act pathetically needy until she leaves the main character.

Bad End features protagonist writing a song about how much of a bitch she is while begging her to come back, then putting down the guitar and staring at the voodoo FFG shrine full of locks of hair, articles of clothing, lame photos smeared with pentagrams and hateful symbols and a mirror with a decal of FFG posing next to protagonist in the mirror.


"derpy twins": derpy twins look identical except for their miscolored purple and blue and pink and green eyes. blue hair, dykey chicks with semi-incest sister issues. one is secretly a furry. they repeat the exact same dialogue and voice acting and imaging verbatim except for a few choice plot points. derpy twins hang out in the courtyard chainsmoking and hassling people. protagonist has to catch one of the derpy twins separated from the other in detention to pursue a relationship with derpy twins (you cannot only have a relationship with one – more on this in a mo).

after impressing one derpy twin in detention by ignoring the teacher and being stupid and harrassive, derpy twin informs her sister and the next time protagonist sees the twins in the courtyard, the choices for interaction change; derpy twins will talk shit with protagonist about other students and can convince protagonist to skip class and key faculty cars in the parking lot. if protagonist does a lot of heinous shit with the derpy twins, they start to become attracted to protagonist and fight with each other over protagonist. protagonist can choose one twin or the other or both, but both latter results end in a weird end where the darker derpy twin tries to kill the protagonist for corrupting her innocent twin, calling him a sick twisted pervert. this comes from a couple of separate special interactions where the derpy twins will approach protagonist separately, and the darker twin acts wigged out if you hit on her and mistake her for her sister. the innocent sister will correct protagonist but the dark sister will not.

if the protagonist chooses the dark twin, she becomes passionately entranced with the protagonist and basically completely abandons her sister, who becomes extremely depressive and passive and eventually runs away. ‘Good End’ with derpy twins features innocent sister having up and run away and dark sister lounging around adoringly, not giving a fuck that her sister is gone and supposedly ‘glad she found a better place and isn’t here anymore’; protagonist is suspicious that derpy twin killed her innocent twin and hid the body when noticing that both derpy twins’ shackles are around derpy twin darkness now.


"custodian": the custodian is the only person at the school who seems emotionally stable and secure in his sexuality, which is opportunistic bisexuality. he's an old ass man in a jump suit who kind of looks like a super perverted Dr. Venture, and can randomly be found sweeping in the background of some scenes with other characters and will occasionally make a lecherous face at the player at odd moments.

a relationship with custodian IS possible, and comes of rejecting other characters over time in the game. as the game would progress on a day by day schedule (day 10, day 100, etc) at a certain point, if you haven't connected with any other character, then the custodian begins to prey upon the player by interacting congenially in the halls, etc. since the player has chosen all of the options to be as apathetic as possible, the game determines that the player character is just a soulless blob and doesn't care what happens to him, so he's gonna hook up with the old-ass custodian man. he's not a bad man, he just loves blowjobs.
